Where is digital heat suited?

If you are interested to learn more about digital heat’s suitability across different building types and alongside other heating methods, the following article should answer your questions.

Where is digital heat suited?Where is digital heat suited?

Digital heat is a functional heating method with thousands of operating hours demonstrated in a variety of environments. There are a few considerations when thinking of whether digital heat could help you save money on your heating. Let's break this down.

What are the potential limitations?

Firstly let's look at the limitations. If there is already a heating method that is helping to save on energy spend and heating costs, such as geothermal energy or a heat pump, then most likely digital heat is not able to bring further savings. Also, industrial buildings that utilise waste heat produced from an industrial process might not be able to attain savings either.

When it comes to size of the area that needs to be heated, our solution is currently aimed for buildings that have at minimum an annual heating need of ca. 200 mWh. This might translate to a ca. 1,000m² residential building or a 2,000m² industrial building, dependent largely on water use in the building.

Electricity connection specifics at the building depend on how large the installation will be. For larger installations or older buildings with small electricity connections, it might be required to upgrade the connections.

Building type suitability

We have clients across multiple building types such as residential, industrial and leisure. The building age is not typically a limiting factor. The technical age of the heating system can be either used up and require renewal or still have over a decade left before renewal.

The most important factor here is overall that the building has a water-based heating system and that digital heat is able to help achieve savings alongside the primary heating method. Digital heat has overall been shown to achieve savings alongside district heat, gas, oil and electricity as methods of heating.

Digital heat is especially good in environments where heat is needed during summer as well e.g. in the form of domestic hot water. Such buildings could be hotels, gyms or other sport facilities, spas and swimming halls. Low heat energy networks benefit from our digital heat solution as well.
